Blackhawks Strengthen PNG Connection Through Grassroots Support

The Townsville Mendi Blackhawks are proud to continue strengthening our connection with Papua New Guinea by supporting grassroots rugby league through former Blackhawks player Moses Meninga.
Moses, who now serves as a League Development Officer in Papua New Guinea, has dedicated himself to growing the game in the communities where he grew up. Alongside his development role, he also volunteers as a coaching mentor, working with local coaches and players to help build stronger clubs and create opportunities for young athletes.
As part of this partnership, the Townsville Mendi Blackhawks recently donated a collection of Blackhawks jerseys and playing apparel to two community clubs in the Mt Hagen region. The jerseys will not only provide quality playing apparel but also serve as a source of pride and inspiration for players representing their communities.
The recipient clubs were:
Club 1 – Mountain Souths
- Location: Mt Hagen
- Competition: Mt Hagen Rugby League Competition
- Coaches: Jason Londe and Jason Malt
Club 2 – Solo Eels
- Location: Mt Hagen City
- Competition: Mt Hagen Rugby League Competition
- Coach: Denis Weri
For many young players in Papua New Guinea, rugby league is much more than a sport, it is a pathway to education, employment and personal development. By supporting clubs at the grassroots level, the Blackhawks hope to contribute to the continued growth of the game while strengthening the long-standing relationship between North Queensland and Papua New Guinea.
The club would like to thank Moses for his outstanding work in developing rugby league throughout his local communities. His passion for giving back and mentoring the next generation embodies the values of the Townsville Mendi Blackhawks, and we are proud to support his efforts.
