Kalifa Try Try Loa – A Ton + 1 & More To Come

Tuesday, June 24, 2025

Kalifa Faifai Loa recently recorded his hundredth Hostplus Cup try becoming just the ninth player in the competition to do so. With 101 to his name he’s in reach of another major milestone… Well actually 2, as we’re about to find out from the man himself. A staunch statistician when it comes to his own numbers, the winger was easily able to answer our questions regarding his century of four-pointers and the records in his sights.

Who have you scored your tries for?

8 for Northern Pride, 9 for Mackay Cutters, 18 for Tweed Seagulls and 66 and counting for the Mendi Blackhawks (And I’m only a 5 off overtaking Jono Reuben as the club’s leading try scorer… Oh and 20 points from becoming the club’s leading pointscorer as well!)

Do you remember you first?

“Yeah it was for the Pride playing against the Capras in round one of 2011. It was the only game I played that year and I scored.”

Well actually it was the Central Comets back in those days … If you want to get technical Kalifa!

What’s the most you’ve scored in a match?

“I’ve scored a couple hattricks, both of the them were for Tweed in 2014. I’ve scored plenty of doubles here at Townsville but no trebles.”

What’s your highest season total?

“16 in 23 games in 2018. That was my first year at the Mendi Blackhawks.”

Do you have a favourite?

“Yes… ALL OF THEM!”
