Junior Round 5 Recap

Tuesday, March 18, 2025

After another big weekend for our Junior games Mendi Blackhawks come away with one win this weekend for our junior grades. Hard fought efforts from all teams.

“So close but not close enough! Girls come out and gave Mackay a real Challenge, the lead at half time 6 nil but with defending our line a number of times in a row the cutters finally got though. I am pleased on how the girls played despite the loss.” – Harvey Norman U17 Girls Coach Rebecca Petersen said.

Nathan Norford Coach of Cyril Connell Cup said “Unfortunately our discipline without the ball and that we that we missed a few opportunities with it.  Then it came back to hurt us in the end.”

“A tough win against a team that hasn’t been beaten in their last 10 games. The girls were tough in defence and had a high completion rate which helped score points. Probably our best performance of the season” – Gavin Lloyd Coach of the Harvey Norman U19 Girls.

Annan Whittington said “The lads fought hard for 70minutes against the undefeated Mackay Cutters, but unfortunately we went down 18-12”. “An early lapse let in 2 quick tries for the Cutters, but as a coaching staff we are proud of how our boys got back into the game and competed until the end”. “Some decisions when in good ball let us down and we didn’t capitalise, continually releasing pressure”. “Back to back weeks of playing teams topped up with Cowboys Elite Pathways kids caught up with us, but the challenge doesn’t go away, hosting the Northern Pride this week at home”. “Our season is still alive, however we need to remove the small lapses throughout games and put together a couple of 70min performances”.

This weekend at Jack Manski Oval is our last juniors game for 17s Boys and Girls and our 19s Girls, with our 19s Boys still to play a few games.
