Terry’s Preview leading into Round 1 of HPC season that kicks off this weekend

Tuesday, March 4, 2025

With Round 1 just 4 days away we spoke to Terry Campese Coach of the Hostplus Cup team to get a preview for the week prep ahead leading into Round 1.

“As we approach the 2025 season, I’m excited for the challenge that lies ahead. We’ve spent a lot of time this off-season building team chemistry and we’ve also worked hard on our discipline, which is an area we let ourselves down in last year. The team has made great strides, and I’m confident that we’ve addressed the key issues that held us back.

We have a great blend of experienced players and younger talent. The leadership from our senior players will be crucial in driving the team forward. Our captain and senior players will set the tone both on the field and in training, ensuring the younger players are guided and that the team remains united. Success comes from a strong team, not just individuals, and I’m confident in our group’s ability to work together, support each other, and build something special this season.

One of the key areas we’re focusing on this year is consistency. We can’t afford to drop games, especially at home, if we’re serious about making the finals. Every match is important, and we need to ensure that we show up with the same intensity and focus week in, week out. That starts with our preparation — both on and off the field. We need to be disciplined, committed, and ready to give our best in every situation.

Our first test will be this Saturday as we travel to Ipswich to take on a very good team. Ipswich had a solid win against Redcliffe in the trials and have made some strong additions to their roster over the off-season. They’re also getting a fair contingent of players back from the Titans, which will make them an even tougher challenge. We need to turn up with the right attitude, apply our preparation, and execute our game plan if we want to come away with the win.

This season is an exciting opportunity for us. It’s a fresh start, and we’ve got a team ready to compete. We’ve worked hard to address our weaknesses, and now it’s about turning that into success on the field. I’m confident in this group’s ability to rise to the occasion, and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together in 2025.”
