Juniors Round 3 review

Monday, March 3, 2025

Another tough fought weekend for our Junior teams as they had their first home game of the season against the CQ Capras.

A few unlucky results but the teams all fought hard till the last siren went off.

“Unfortunately we didn’t control the game as we would have liked. We lost the middle of the park and then struggled to regain control with our execution. Hopefully the boys can bounce back next week in cairns.” Cyril Connell Cup Coach Nathan Norford said.

“Despite the loss the girls started off strong with shifting the ball out to our edges to get points on the board early. With yet another set of halves the real stand out was our halfback Alanieta with taking all control of the game.”
“The girls put up a real fight til the end but capras were just too strong.”
“I was impressed on how well the girls played and have seen a massive improvement over the last couple of weeks” Rebecca Petersen Harvey Norman u17 coach said.

Annan Whittington Coach of Mal Meninga Cup team said “The MMC 19s boys had another close encounter for much of their round 3 fixture with the CQ Capras, with a few late tries to the Capras giving the CQ lads a convincing win on the scoreboard.

“We went into the game looking for a response and our middle forwards really stood up, led by Eneliko Savelio, Sitiveni Afu and Kyle Bader”.
“In the end, our boys need to learn to play for the entire 70mins and not give away cheap possession and penalties, gifting teams field position that they haven’t earned”.
We turn our attention to the Northern Pride this week in Cairns and we know they will be a tough opposition. We will review our performance and there will be changes.

Gavin Lloyd coach of the Harvey Norman 19 Girls said “A good defensive effort from the 19 girls saw them have a good win on the weekend. A little more patience in attack also helped with scoring points. Overall the girls were very willing and really gave their all in trying conditions.”
