Junior R2 Review

Monday, February 24, 2025

After a tough and wet weekend in Mackay for our Junior teams coming away with just 1 win out of 4 for the day we spoke to Junior Coaches to get a recap on the weekend just gone and moving forward for the weekend ahead which will be our first junior home game at Jack Manski Oval this Saturday 1st March.

“Another tough game especially losing both halves during the week leading into the game, but the girls come out and started strong but couldn’t come away with the win. Despite the injuries and a number of changes this week the girls did improve! We still have a few things to get right but we will keep working hard.” U17 Girls Coach Rebecca Petersen said

Gavin Lloyd U19 Girls Coach said “The game was close up until the last 15 minutes we lost players due to injury and couldn’t keep control of the ball. Very strong defensive effort from the girls under tough circumstances. A head injury to Jenna Poole will be a big loss next game.”

“It was a close game again but good to see our spine starting to work together. Tough scenes in the middle of the field in the mud. But they stayed connected and grinded away a good win. Still a lot of improvement in us, looking forward to this weekend.” U17 Boys Coach Nathan Norford said.

MMC Coach Annan Whittington said “The MMC 19s boys made their lives difficult in horrendous conditions at BB Print Stadium, giving away far too many penalties and handing the Mackay Cutters cheap possession in the first 15 minutes. Debutant interchange forward Ryder Soper and interchange lock Hayde Munro turned the game back in our favour, embracing the grind and delivering exactly what the team needed. With 20minutes to go and only down 12-4, errors in both attack and defence gifted the Cutters field position and they ran in a number of late tries. The damage was done in the first 10-15 minutes, with conditions and discipline catching up with our boys later in the game. Bruce Baudu and Riley McIntyre were the other stand outs, carrying the ball well in yardage and making no errors in attack.”

We look forward to seeing the Junior teams this weekend as they take on CQ Capras right here at home on Saturday 1st March.
