Jesse Pascoe is a kiwi code-hopper who’s gone from a train and trialist to a contracted Mendi Blackhawk. He’s still a raw rugby league talent have only starting playing a couple of years ago after making another switch… From across the ditch.

“Yeah I’m a rugby boy from New Zealand, born and bred in Otara. I moved to Newcastle to follow my partner and I played local footy in 2023 and 24 for Lakes United down in Belmont. Yeah it’s really really cool playing it, I really enjoy it.”

Jesse’s now fiancé is none other than NRLW star and Kiwi Ferns international Abigail Roache. The centre won the premiership with the Knights before signing for the Cowboys, bringing the pair to Townsville. While they try not to have footy filled conversations, a handful of detailed discussions helped Jesse better understand a few intricacies of the game.

“Yeah we have one or 2 in depth chats not too many though, but yeah I always try get some tips off her and some little pointers.”

And it’s an education he’s expanding at the Mendi Blackhawks.

“I’m still trying to learn the wrestling part of it, probably the fitness as well. The coaches and management have been really good, they’ve been really helping me along the way and yeah I’ve been embracing the feedback and the teachings and just trying to soak it all up.”

The short stocky outside back is made of muscle, and having made a strong impression in the black and green during pre-season, he pushed his way into the Hostplus Cup Squad. His next goal is to break into the team and debut in the competition.
