Trip down South to visit Wayne Bennett
Thursday, January 16, 2025
Our Head Coach Terry Campese, Operations Manager Adrian Thomson and CEO Justin Wilkins spent the first part of this week visiting our NRL Affiliates South Sydney Rabbitohs. The three men were welcomed when they arrived by not only our Blackhawks Hostplus Cup players down there (Bailey Biondi-Odo, Josh Stuckey and Luke Webley) but also the 7 time premiership winning coach Wayne Bennett and his team.
Terry spent his time at South Sydney soaking in all the tips and tricks from the great Wayne Bennett. “Its an awesome opportunity, to one be involved with Wayne and to see how he goes about his business, and also to watch our players that have been down here throughout the pre-season.” Terry Campese said.
Campese has been actively involved in field sessions this week, observing how the coaches manage the training and engaging in various aspects of coaching throughout the week.
“I attended the meeting this morning, sat in on the session planning yesterday, took part in the wrestling session this afternoon, and have essentially been shadowing the coaches the entire day,” Campese said.
“Benny (Hornby) and Sutto (John Sutton) have been really helpful, and then Wayne comes in to have the final say. The way he goes about Business (Wayne Bennett), the way he talks to the boys has been really good”
Whilst Terry, Justin and Adrian (Happy) were down at Souths they didn’t just attend training for the NRL Team, they also spent a bit of time watching the Junior Reps Training session on the Monday afternoon at Erskineville Oval.
“It’s been very welcoming from the Rabbitohs so far. I can’t thank them enough and it’s been a really good experience.”
The Rabbitohs will head to Townsville for a trial match against the Townsville Blackhawks to be played at Jack Manski Oval on Saturday 8 February at 5pm local time (6pm Sydney time). Tickets are available at the gates. More details to come!
