Capras Steal the Win at Jack Manski Against Blackhawks
For round 2 of the Hostplus Cup, the Mendi Blackhawks host the Capras at Jack Manski Oval.
Both teams are coming of round 1 wins and are looking for a strong
Mendi Blackhawks were first to put points on the board through Sylvester Namo who beat defenders to score under the posts and the conversion by Thomas Duffy was successful.
Mendi Blackhawks skipper Jayden Hodges raced out of dummy half to extend his teams lead and the conversion was successful by Duffy.
The Capras were able to score in the corner through Brandon Roberts and the conversion by Trey Browne was successful.
The Mendi Blackhawks hit back as Brendan Elliot scored off a Thomas Duffy kick and the conversion was unsuccessful.
The Blackhawks went into the break leading the Capras, 16-6.
The Capras got the first points of the second half as a crafty play from Blake Moore allowed Brendan Roberts to get a double and the conversion was unsuccessful.
An error from the Mendi Blackhawks allowed the Capras to take advantage of the field position and Tom Farr scored a try with the conversion attempt unsuccessful.
The Capras were able to quickly take the lead with winger Tom Farr scoring his second try of the day and the conversion was unsuccessful.
The Capras were able to score through Lachlan Hubner who pushed his way over the line and the kick from Blake Moore was successful.
Brendan Elliot put the Mendi Blackhawks back in the game as he scored try in the corner and Duffy’s successful conversion closed the gap to a 2 point game.
Jarrod Wallace iced the game off for the Capras as he crashed over the line and the conversion by Moore was successful, ending all desperate attempts for the Mendi Blackhawks to turn the game around.
The final score was 30-22 with the Capras gaining back to back wins.
This game would mark the 50th Cup game for Capras Trey Browne.
The Mendi Blackhawks will travel to Mackay to battle the Mackay Cutters for round 3.
The Capras will host the Northern Pride at home for round 3.
