The Mendi Blackhawks U21s have defeated the Souths Logan Magpies 26-6 at Pizzey Park on the Gold Coast to advance to the preliminary finals of the Hastings Deering Colts competition.

The Mendi Blackhawks lead 12-0 at half time with Dylan White scoring and converting the first try in the 9th minute.

Zach McMinn was next to score cleaning up an untouched bomb by kicker Jake Bourke, scoring just before the dead ball line, in the 12 minutes, Dylan White converted.

These were the only points in the first half.

Jesse Yallop came close to scoring first in the second half, but a remarkable long range chase and tackle by the Souths fullback Byron Johnson managed to send him into touch close to the line in what looked like a sure try.

Both teams had opportunities to score first in the second half but it was Jordan Lipp for the Mendi Blackhawks to post first points from a scrum set play, bouncing off defenders to score.  Zac Laybutt converted the try.

A flick pass from Zac Laybutt and winger for the Mendi Blackhawks Jesse Yallop scored in the corner, taking the score to 22-0 with just under 15 minutes of play remaining.

Souths hit back with their first try in the game in the 66th minute to winger Tyron Harding, but that was to be their only try for the afternoon, converted by Byron Johnson.

A perfectly placed kick from half back Aaron Moore sealed the game for the Mendi Blackhawks with Zac Laybutt scoring with two minutes remaining and the team in black and green were off to the preliminary finals.

The Mendi Blackhawks will play the Sunshine Coast Falcons at Moreton Daily Stadium next Saturday at 4pm.

The game will be broadcase LIVE on QRL.com.au, Intrust Super Cup app, QRL Facebook & Kayo Freebies.
