The Townsville and Districts Mendi Blackhawks go into the bye round this weekend, leading both of the Intrust Super Cup and Hastings Deering Colts ladders for the first time.

Mendi Blackhawks Coach, Kristian Woolf is happy with the teams 28-22 win against the Mackay Cuttes on Saturday night, but knows there is still a long way to go in the competition.

“We are in a good position going in the bye round this week-end,” Woolf said.

“But we are certainly not getting ahead of ourselves,”

“The Cutters put in a really strong performance, especially their Cowboys allocations,”

“Our defence was very better in the second half,”

“Like last week, we’re happy with the win, but still have a lot of improvement in us.”

Kristian Woolf and David Tangata-Toa are currently away with the Tongan National Rugby League Team, as they prepare for the Pacific Test this Saturday night against Samoa.

Mendi Blackhawks next game will be on Saturday June 30 when both teams travel to Atherton to take on the Northern Pride.
