Women in League Round 2016
Wednesday, May 18, 2016
There will be plenty of pink this weekend at Jack Manski Oval as the Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks celebrate Women in League Round.
The players will be wearing special edition Pink Jerseys for their Round 11 Intrust Super Cup clash with the Mackay Cutters which will later be auctioned on the club’s website with proceeds going to Breast Cancer Research.
According to the NRL there are over 400,000 females involved in the game of rugby league as administrators, players, coaches, employees, parents, volunteers or club members.
This weekend gives the Mendi Blackhawks an opportunity to say thank you to all of the women who make such significant contributions to the game.
The club will host some special female volunteers from all of the local junior and senior rugby league competitions in their own “Ladies in League” marquee for the day.
There will also be plenty of female talent on show on game day as well, as the Townsville Representative rugby league side take on the Mackay Representative rugby league side in the lead up to the Intrust Super Cup match.
From this game a North Queensland Representative side will be chosen for the State Titles on June 4 2016.
This weekend’s Community Corner will see Islah’s Sparkle raising awareness and funds for Tay-Sach’s disease. Islah is one of only two babies in Australia with the rare inherited genetic disorder. The team from Islah’s Sparkle will be selling merchandise including stubby coolers and temporary tattoos near the entrance gate.
