Blackhawks and Bears draw it out

The Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks played out a nail biting draw against the Burleigh Bears at Pizzey Park on a wet Sunday afternoon in Round 9 of Intrust Super Cup.

It was a see-sawing affair as the two teams shared the lead throughout the match.

The Mendi Blackhawks backline were outstanding in attack with Hezron Murgha scoring twice and Jahrome Hughes, Moses Pangai and Jonathon Reuben combining effortlessly to hand Reuben his own double.

There were some late handling errors and tries against the run of play as the Bears chased down the Mendi Blackhawks 28-24 lead to level scores at 28 all with just minutes to play.

Neither team were able to come up with the miracle play in the final minutes and they played out a tense draw to hand both teams a point each.

The Queensland Residents side were also named at half time during the Round 9 match with Mendi Blackhawks Jahrome Hughes, Corey Jensen and Anthony Mitchell being justly rewarded for their excellent form with selection in the side.
