Blackhawks thrash Victoria in Mal Meninga Quarter Final

Sunday, April 24, 2016

The Townsville Blackhawks Mal Meninga Cup side have won their Quarter Final today with a resounding 9 tries to 1 victory over the Victorian side.

The Blackhawks who have dominated all year never looked troubled by the visiting team despite the Victorian’s boasting some significant size.

It was a five tries to one first half as the home side’s middle men worked hard to gain field position for their halves and the team looked disciplined and determined in both attack and defence.

The Blackhawks kept their opposition scoreless in the second stanza as the Victorian side, in their first finals appearance, struggled to make a dent in the home side’s line.

Hooker Julian Christian and fullback Marshall Hudson were standouts for the home side and their hard work was rewarded with each scoring doubles. Interestingly the Blackhawks showed some depth in goal kickers as four different players lined up during the match to take successful kicks.

The team will now take on the Sunshine Coast Falcons this coming weekend in the Semi-Final. Full times and venues for the semi finals to be announced on QRL.com.au later this week.

Earlier in the day the Blackhawks Cyril Connell Cup side also won their Quarter Final match against Victoria.
