The Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks have today confirmed the signing of English forward Lee Jewitt from English Super League Club Castleford on a one year contract beginning in 2017.

Jewitt started his career with Wigan Warriors, making his debut in 2005. In his 160 plus Super Leagues appearances he has also played for the Salford City Reds and French Club the Limoux Grizzlies.

Jewitt has told the English press that he was desperate to come and live in Australia with his family but would find it tough to say goodbye to Castleford.

Mendi Blackhawks Coach Kristian Woolf said that the club became aware of the front rower due to his desire to come to Australia, “We had heard that Lee wanted to move to Australia and play football as this level.”

“On following up we found that he is certainly the type of player to fit the mold we are looking for here at the club and after speaking with him it’s clear his character seems to fit our culture as well.”
