Young Blackhawks play final home game Saturday

Wednesday, March 30, 2016

This Saturday 2nd April 2016 the Townsville Blackhawks Cyril Connell and Mal Meninga Cup sides will play their final home games of season 2016 against the Central Queensland Capras. Their final two rounds against the Northern Pride and the Mackay Cutters will be away matches.

Both sides, who are the defending premiers, are currently undefeated and well on track to play in the 2016 final series. You can find more info about the Mal Meninga Cup final series format here and the Cyril Connell Cup final series here.

The Cyril Connell Cup will kick off the action at 3pm and the Mal Meninga Cup will follow at 4:30pm. Gates will be open all day and entry is FREE for both matches, making it the perfect opportunity to see the next generation of Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks in action. There will also be a Townsville Women’s Rugby League vs Central Highlands Women’s Rugby League match taking place on FIELD 2 at 3pm.

The Mal Meninga squad has been amassing some large wins so far this season averaging just over 46 points per game and looking very dominant. Coach Dick Walsh is pleased with his team’s progress and attitude, “Coming into the second half of our home and away fixtures I’m very happy with where the squad is at regarding our on field structures and our team culture. There is obvious room for improvement and given the nature and attitude of our playing group i believe we will go along way to achieving goals set prior to the season commencement”.

The Cyril Connell side have had to fight a little harder but have still managed to win all their matches in 2016. Cyril Connell Coach Allan Petersen said his side will be preparing as normal this week, “We will be looking to do the little things right this week and come game day we will be making sure we are completing our sets.”
