Tweed Heads kick off a tough month for Blackhawks
Wednesday, March 30, 2016
The Tweed Heads Seagulls first win of 2016 came in Round 1 at their home ground Piggabeen Sports against the Easts Tigers and they will be looking to continue their home ground winning streak this weekend as they host the Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks.
The Mendi Blackhawks will be wary of complacency and the heavy toll of travel this week as they head into a tough three week period of away matches against strong opposition. On Sunday they head to Piggabeen Sports to take on the Seagulls who will be feeling fresh coming off a BYE in Round 4 and hungry for a win following a narrow two point loss to the PNG Hunters in Round 3.
Tweed Heads will field a talented side with fullback Shannon Walker proving a handful at the back, James Wood performing strongly in the centres and Sam Irwin guiding the team around the paddock. Add to the mix Titans players Ryan Simpkins, Matt Robinson, Leva Li and potentially Kierran Moseley and the Seagulls are a formidable opposition.
Coach Kristian Woolf has not made any changes to the side that played in the Round 4 win over Wynnum Manly other than to add Noel Underwood as 18th man.
“We are expecting this week to be a really tough, grinding game of footy. Tweed are renowned for being tough to beat, especially at Piggabeen. I’m really looking forward to seeing our blokes continue to improve on the efforts of last week and some consistency in our team” Woolf said.
