Blackhawks head to Burdekin for final trial

Friday, February 12, 2016

This afternoon the Townsville & Districts Mendi Blackhawks will travel to Ayr to take on the Burdekin Roosters at Rugby Park. The team visiting the region will consist of a mixture of Intrust Super Cup players and local Townsville & Districts Rugby League players.

Coach Kristian Woolf believes this is the opportunity for Intrust Super Cup players to push for starting spots and local players to push for the last spaces available on the squad.

“This is our final try prior to the Intrust Super Cup season. It will give blokes like Conor Carey, Lona Kaifoto, Lenny Magey and Kieran Quabba, among others, a chance to force their way into the ISC starting squad and also a chance to get a full 80 minute game under their belts.” He said.

This will be the first trial held in the Burdekin region and Townsville Mendi Blackhawks Football Operations Manager, Adrian Thomson is delighted that the club is able to take the game to the home of the Burdekin Roosters, “This is our first time visiting the Burdekin since our inception. We place great importance on getting out to visit the clubs in our footprint and this trial is our chance to do that prior to season 2016 kicking off.”

“We hope the local crowd will get down to Rugby Park and support their local lads as well as come to see the Blackhawks in action.” He said.
