Representative Honours for four Blackhawks
Monday, April 27, 2015
Daniel Beasley moved to Townsville to reinvigorate his rugby league career. Now settled and happy in his personal life the former Cairns Brothers player has started the Intrust Super Cup season in brilliant form earning himself several man of the match nods in the first 8 rounds. His form has also now earned him a call up to the 2015 Queensland Resident’s starting side.
Beasley has suggested his current rich vein of form is down to the system at the Mendi Blackhawks and the players he lines up with every week. “The whole team is travelling really well at the moment and I think quality performances and having quality players around you definitely contributes to your form personally.”
“This is my first call up for the Residents and it’s a great honour to be selected. I think we’ve been rewarded for our form in the early part of this season and I look forward to playing this weekend.”
Beasley has been playing outstanding football for the Mendi Blackhawks since Round 1. The prop forward has been leading from the front and consistently appears the top 3 tacklers each week. Beasley’s leadership both as a captain and in defense has been exceptional. He was a part of the highly successful Kristian Woolf-led National Youth Competition side who narrowly missed out on the Grand Final against the Warriors in 2011.
Coach Woolf said that Beasley is a tough trainer and is leading the troops well in their very first premiership campaign. “He is a great bloke and he works really hard. He has plenty of experience and certainly leads from the font with everything he does. It’s a well-deserved selection.”
Centre and NQ Cowboys contracted player Kyle Feldt also earned a call up, named at number 4 for the Queensland Residents. Feldt has a wealth of NRL and representative experience and has also been in scintillating form for the Mendi Blackhawks so far this season. The big centre is equally dangerous in attack and defence and the expert finisher is probably unlucky not to be playing for the NQ Cowboys at present.
Feldt was born and bred in Townsville and played his junior football with the Norths club. He has previously played for the Residents and also the Junior Kangaroos. Feldt was also a part of Woolf’s Under 20’s 2011 squad and set records for most career points overall and most points in a season for the Cowboys during that campaign.
Captain Beasley spoke highly of Feldt “Look Kyle has been there before many times at representative level. He’s very strong defensively and as his performances consistently show, there are not many out there who are better than him on the edges.”
Ray Thompson and Rhyse Martin have also been selected to play for PNG Kumuls this weekend against Fiji. Martin has been leading the try scoring for the Blackhawks alongside Zac Santo and Thompson has been playing so well that we earned a Cowboys call-up over the weekend against the Newcastle Knights.
Coach Kristian Woolf said “All four of the boy’s selections are a well-deserved reward for the hard work they have put in this so far this year. As a team we have been playing great football and you don’t get players selected for representative sides unless your own team is playing well.”
