Team Announcement Round 2
Tuesday, March 10, 2015
The Townsville & District Mendi Blackhawks will this weekend embark on our first away game for Round 2 of the 2015 Intrust Super Cup. On Sunday the 15th March the club will land at North Ipswich Reserve to take on the Ipswich Jets in an exciting day of celebration and appreciation for our Armed Forces.
The Jets will be hosting NAB Defence Force Appreciation Day which will conclude a week long celebration for the city. The Jets and our own Mendi Blackhawks will play the inaugural match of what will become an annual event for the Defence Force Recruiting Shield. Gates open at North Ipswich Reserve at 10am with camouflage face painting, jumping castles, Light Horse troops, cadet displays, WWI re-enactment group, military vehicles and more, before the main game kicks off at 1.40pm.
In another historic first this match will be the first ever time the Townsville & District Mendi Blackhawks will appear on television with the game set to broadcast live on WIN television from 1:30pm. Coach Kristian Woolf expects a tight match “The Jets are a strong side with lots of strike power, especially their outside backs. I expect we will also have a battle on our hands shutting down the forward leaders Keiron Lander, Rod Griffin and Kurtis Lingwoodock.” He said.
“From our team perspective we are looking to improve on our Round 1 attacking performance but I was satisfied with our defence last week so I hope we can reproduce that when we take to the field for round 2.”
