Trial Time for Mendi Blackhawks

The Townsville & District Mendi Blackhawks are currently preparing for their first real challenge for the 2015 season with three exciting trials scheduled for February 2015. The club expects to face three physically challenging encounters and have been training hard in order to ensure they are prepared for their opponents. There will be no easing into the competition with the Blackhawks set to face defending Intrust Super Cup Premiers and National State Champions, the Northern Pride in Cairns on Saturday 7th February at 6:00pm. Weeks of arduous preseason training will be put to the test as the Mendi Blackhawks face the competition favorites in 4 weeks time, no doubt in front of a vocal Cairns crowd.


Trial 1  – Saturday 7th February 2015 – Stan Williams Park CAIRNS (Behan St, Manunda, QLD 4870)                               From 4pm Tickets will be $10.00 for Adults and Children under the age of 18 will be FREE

  • 2:00pm    CYRIL CONNELL – Northern Pride vs Townsville Stingers
  • 2:00pm    MAL MANINGA – Northern Pride vs Townsville Stingers
  • 4:00pm    UNDER 20’s – Northern Pride vs Cairns Brothers
  • 6:00pm    INTRUST SUPER CUP – Northern Pride vs Townsville Blackhawks 

 

Blackhawks Training Session 2 (6)The second trial is set to take place at the Mendi Blackhawks home base of Jack Manski Oval in Kirwan against a North Queensland Cowboys composite side. This side will include players from the Cowboys Under 20’s side as well as Cowboys players from the top squad who are not playing in the NRL Auckland 9’s. The club are expecting a bumper crowd for the historic first home game for the team on Saturday 14th February 2015 with kick off to be at 6:00pm. There will be no cost to enter the game and there will be merchandise and memberships on sale on the day.

The third and final trial for the club will involve travel to Rockhampton to face the Central Queensland Capras at Browne Park on Saturday 21st February at 7:00pm. Ticketing details and match times will be posted on the Capras website soon. The Capras are likely to be in strong form as they will face the Broncos in one of their initial pre-season trial matches and are said to be looking to make a statement against the Mendi Blackhawks as competition newcomers. The match will also see former Capras players Tom Humble and Nathaniel Bowman making a return to Browne Park. The game is set to be a tough final hit out for the Mendi Blackhawks as Capras Coach Jason Hetherington has said the team will be close to full strength.
